What Affects the Cost?
1. Base IVF Cycle Cost
A standard IVF cycle costs $10,000–$18,000 at most clinics. This typically includes egg retrieval, embryo creation, fresh embryo transfer, and ultrasound monitoring. It DOES NOT include fertility medications ($3,000–$8,000/cycle), genetic testing ($2,500–$6,000), or frozen embryo transfer ($3,000–$5,000).
2. Add-Ons That Drive Cost
ICSI (sperm injection): $1,000–$2,500 extra. PGT-A (preimplantation genetic testing): $2,500–$6,000 for testing + $250–$500 per embryo biopsied. Frozen embryo transfer (FET): $3,000–$5,000. Donor eggs: $25,000–$50,000 additional (fresh cycle with donor).
3. State Insurance Mandates
19 states require IVF insurance coverage: IL, MA, NJ, NY, CT, MD, RI, TX (limited), and others. In mandate states, out-of-pocket costs can drop to $0–$5,000 per cycle. Texas only mandates coverage for small employers. California mandates IUI but not IVF. Always call your insurance before choosing a clinic.
